Take a look at this at very basic but life saving tips on usage of your Electrical equipment and installations.
2. Unplug machinery and appliances before cleaning, inspecting, repairing, or
removing something from them. This is the basic principal of lock out and tag
out. Similarly any faulty electrical equipment must be switched off, plugs
removed and tagged to warn others.
3. Keep electrical equipment, machinery, and work areas clean. Oil, dust, waste,
and water can be fire hazards around electricity.
4. Keep access to panels and junction boxes clear. Know the location of fuses
and circuit breakers.

5. Switch off electrical equipment when not in use. Use only approved and
tested appliances and equipment.
A Kind Reminder |
6. Move flammable materials away from electric sources and lights, especially
halo lamps or high intensity lamps.

7. If you are not trained to work in high-voltage areas, do not enter them, even in
an emergency but instead contact a qualified person to work on installations even on the low voltage equipment

8. Make sure all electrical equipment is properly grounded. This does not apply
to double insulated (e.g. casing made of plastics with no metal parts)
appliances.
Emphasis On Grounding/Earthing |
9. Carry out routine maintenance on all electrical equipment to check that the
plugs, sockets, cables and switches are in good working order. This include
checking circuit breakers, earth faults RICBs. Never use any electrical
equipment which had been stored for a long time (typically more than a year)
without a thorough check by the serviceman.
On-going Maintenance |
10. Know what to do for electrical fires - Never use water directly.
