Plastic Ban - Carry Or Buy From Supermarket

The plastic ban is coming into effect this coming Monday, 28th August 2017 in which you will be fined overly Kshs. 4 million or face a jail term of four years should you be found in possession of  plastic bags. There are several initiatives to ensure you do not lack something with which to carry you mboga or sugar from your local kiosks.
Reusable Shopping Bags
Village market were one of the first institutions to support the Government in this initiatives by offering to turn customer`s old jeans into neatly done shopping bags in addition to a total ban of plastic paper bags usage. In Nakumatt shops, you are rarely offered plastic bags but instead you always have to part with a few shillings for their re-usable shopping bags.

The latest to join or to show full support to the ban are the Retailers Traders Association of Kenya saying that all supermarkets will offer the eco-friendly bags at a small fee of between Ksh. 30 to Kshs. 50. The supermarkets include Uchumi, EastMatt, Choppies, Tumaini. Naivas, Mulleys, Tuskys, Chandarana, Nakumatt, Carrefour and Cleanshelf, Saltes, QuickMart and Budget. The supermarkets will also give their customers the option to carry their own shopping bags.

There is an exhibition organised by the Environment ministry underway to showcase the options available and where to get the best deals from on the same. We are in support of the ban as it is a step in the right direction for our environment. Are you ready for the ban?
