The First 400kV Transmission Line In East Africa

The Isinya- Suswa line is set to provide an alternative means of power supply to Athi river and its environs addressing challenges such as low voltage, high transmission losses, unreliable supply and network supply. Other beneficiary of the newly upgraded line, initially operated at 220kV, are The export processing zone(EPZ), cement factories, learning institutions amongst other establishments in the area. The line was energised this past Wednesday, 26th July 2017.




As reported on their website, in addition to the recently energised line another 102km double circuit line was also laid set to tranfers power from geo-thermal plants through Suswa sub-station to Isinya substation. The Suswa – Isinya transmission line is part of the Nairobi Ring and Associated Substations project which also involves the construction of substations at Suswa, Isinya, Kimuka, Athi River and Komarock.
