The Chinese have been for a long time lobbying to partake in the construction of the Mau summit highway. The 233km highway was set to be built by A French consortium but the construction was put on hold as the incoming Government felt that the tender sum was exaggerated with a country being in a tight fiscal space.
In a recent interview with a local media outlet, the Transport Principal Secretary intimated that the Government was in talks with Contractors and financiers for a review of the presentation and eventually the costings. This is set to delay even further the roll out of the project which had attracted interest form financiers as The World Bank and the African Development Bank.
In recent weeks, the Government have decided to entice the Chinese in a bid to have them bid for the works in addition to discussion centered on completion of ongoing projects.
