Pedal Powered `Elevator'

Going up to the tenth floor? Well, it is only natural that you will take the lifts as opposed to using the stairs but this leaves you with a lot of guilt leave alone earning that `coveted  lazy title'. How about you cycle your way up to the tenth floor? Here comes The Vycle, a pedal powered elevator system.

Recently, we shared with you on how a German firm was developing a multi-directional elevator system that will not only reduce energy costs but also provide architects with the space and flexibility to design buildings. An alternative to the lifts is the Vycle. An idea crafted by Elena Larriba and Jon Garcia to not only takes you up the building but also keeps you fit.

The Vycle takes inspiration from how the bicycle works. Attached to a vertical rail fitted to the side of any building, it is powered by continuous cyclical movement. You can decide how much effort to put into reaching to your destination as it uses a gearing system similar to how bikes work. Through the balancing act of counterweights, you only need to overcome your own weight. The Vycle is not only meant to bring about property efficiency but also to take care of the general well being of users.

We are not sure you would feel comfortable riding the vycle to the twentieth floor of your office block, would you? Here is more information on The Vycle
